‘Trees and Memories’ Launch for Kate Cambridge

On Saturday, esteemed guests were invited to an exclusive preview of Kate Cambridge’s exhibition ‘Trees and Memories’ at The Heseltine Gallery at Truro School.

Guests immersed themselves in Kate’s exquisite artwork, which jumps off the page and comes to life with audio and text memories that accompany each piece of art. The exhibition is more than just a display of paintings. Each portrait tells a powerful story of childhood memories, love and loss or personal reflections from the owners of the tree or their protectors.

Kate has captured the trees across the seasons, in a process that has taken her over two years to complete. Dedicating her time to make the paintings capture the essence of each memory in its most realistic form. Each piece has been framed locally in Bodmin, and a frame chosen specifically to capture the tree in it encapsulating beauty and showcase it to the world.

Within the exhibition is a special piece Kate has created for iSight Cornwall – a painting that can been seen but also touched to bring artwork to life for the visually impaired. This is a piece very passionate to Kate and has pride of place within the exhibition, she welcome’s attendees to feel this picture and feel the definition and experience her art in a different format. Kate hopes to work on more pieces in this format in the future, as it has brought joy to so many through the project.

The exhibition collates 20 powerful pieces, with some well-known Cornish gardens represented, such as Heligan, Tregothan, Caerhays, Glendurgen and Trelissick. In addition to these well-known estates, trees are featured from local private gardens and public spaces, such as the ‘Traffic Tree’ at Grampound, that Kate herself would pass daily on her commute and gave her inspiration.

The Kings Forrester and High Sheriff Geraint Richards MVO FICFor joined Saturday’s celebration, to officially open the exhibition and commend Kate’s dedication to creating this very special collection. He offered positive words and support for the exceptional pieces that guests perused as they wandered the floor, viewing the artwork that adorned the walls of the gallery. Mr Richards took the time to speak to guests – many who worked within the gardens or are the owners or inspirations behind the pieces.

The collection of paintings is being showcased for the first time at The Heseltine Gallery, before it is planned to move around the county visiting some of the featured gardens and adding a new dynamic of immersive experience to these already special places.

The exhibition is open to the public, from 10am until 4pm, daily until 16th August. The exhibition is free to attend for all, and has a calming presence, in the tranquil environment of the gallery, offering a relaxing escape from daily life. To access the audio for each memory, you will just need a smartphone to scan the QR codes.

Located within the Truro School complex, The Hestletine Gallery is centrally located within walking distance of Truro city centre, with adequate on-site parking, and great public transport links. Entrance to the exhibition is signposted on arrival into the school site.
