The new school year has kicked off with pupils making full use of our brand-new Astro pitch, following a major upgrade that began in May. During the summer, children attending our Pre-Season Hockey Camp were among the very first to step onto the new surface, enjoying an exciting sneak preview before the start of term.
In January 2026, the Governors of Truro School approved plans to replace the existing artificial sports pitch after it had reached the end of its lifespan. Working in partnership with We Are Verde, the school selected an FIH (International Hockey Federation) accredited surface, and we are proud to announce that it is now one of only a small number of FIH-approved pitches in Cornwall.
The installation included the removal and recycling of the existing carpet and shock pad, the installation of a new 15mm in-situ shock pad, and a new 18mm sand-dressed FIH-approved carpet manufactured in Belgium. The project also included fencing modifications and the installation of new kick boards, further enhancing the facility.
The upgraded pitch will benefit both Truro School pupils and the wider sporting community who regularly use the Sports Centre. In particular, Truro Hockey Club, which is based at the centre, will be among the regular users of this fantastic new facility.
